How to Control Anger & Resentment According to Bhagavad Gita

Practical steps from Lord Krishna's teachings to conquer anger, master impulses, and restore mental tranquility.

The Anatomy of Anger in the Gita

In Chapter 2 Verses 62–63, Lord Krishna maps out the exact psychological progression of anger:

Sensory Dwelling ➔ Attachment ➔ Desire ➔ Frustrated Expectation ➔ Anger ➔ Delusion ➔ Ruin of Intellect.

Why Anger Is Self-Destructive (BG 16.21)

Krishna names anger (Krodha), lust (Kama), and greed (Lobha) as the three gates to self-destruction. Anger punishes you before it affects anyone else.

3 Gita Remedies to Overcome Anger

1. Recognize the Root: Blocked Desire

Whenever anger rises, ask: "What hidden expectation was just disappointed?" Acknowledging that expectations are attachments defuses emotional intensity.

2. Pause Before Reacting

Because anger impairs the intellect (Buddhi), make it a rule never to write an email, argue, or make decisions while agitated.

3. Cultivate Forgiveness (Kshama) (BG 12.13)

Lord Krishna praises the devotee who is forgiving, free from egoism, and compassionate to all living beings.
